Inclusive Climate Infrastructure Design Challenge
We had an enlightening session today as part of the New York Climate Action Week, exploring Inclusive Climate Infrastructure Design Challenge
Despite 16% of the world’s population having some form of disability, inclusion remains underrepresented in climate adaptation strategies, infrastructure planning, and service delivery (World Bank, 2023).
Through the UK International Development-funded AT2030Programme, the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) has spent the past four years conducting participatory research across six cities Ulaanbaatar, Varanasi, Surakarta, Freetown, Nairobi, and Medellín. Our findings highlight how urban infrastructure and services can both enable and obstruct accessibility and how climate risks threaten independent living and mobility.
