SP 12: Grow the Global Partnership

This sub-programme captures the work that GDI Hub is doing to ensure that partnerships and networks are solidified globally in the effort to ensure that assistive technology reaches those that need it. To support the wider AT2030 programme, several partnerships have developed. Additionally, led by IDA, this sub-programme strengthen the role of persons with disabilities and their representing organisations in the use of and access to AT by reducing gaps between critical duty bearers, actors and service providers around assistive technology regarding the experiences of the diversity of persons with disability in partnership with the International Disability Alliance (IDA) Partners include: GDI Hub at UCL, IDA

Partnerships

The ISPO Partnership

GDI Hub and ISPO are working together to build consensus across the multidisciplinary prosthetics and orthotics community through the production of a paper on digital transformation.

India Partnership (India AT Innovation Challenge)

In the framework of the AT2030 Programme, UCL, GDI Hub, ICMR, and DFID India are joining efforts, through a joint funding scheme, to launch the India AT Innovation Challenge. The collaboration, which includes AIIMS and IIT-Delhi, will allow Indian Government Funds to be leveraged to develop India’s innovation and research capacity and strengthen India’s ability to produce Assistive Technology (AT).  The Innovation Challenge will also support the AT2030 programme’s mission to bring AT to more people. 

Tokyo Summit

Digital and pop up engagement activities alongside the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics will bring together the disability innovation community, exploring the latest developments in this dynamic field to drive collaboration and learning. Working alongside Keio University and the British Council Japan the GDI Hub will create a series of events to capture some of the most innovative ideas, products and solutions, identifying global solutions with the potential for global impact. 

ATscale

GDI supports the growth of ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, and often work closely together to ensure that the maximum impact is reached across all activities.

The project intends to strengthen the role of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations, in advancing the use of and access to AT devices. Central to the project is, collecting knowledge and research from persons with disabilities.

    International Disability Alliance - Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub)’s Assistive Technology User Fellow, Nayem Molla, attended ATscale convening event on digital assistive technology and employment, and the Remarkable Tech Summit on inclusive innovation in San Diego, California from 2-5 October 2023. The events brought together diverse stakeholders from across sectors and geographies to drive progress and lead discussions to shape the future of assistive technology.

    The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) recognizes the importance of assistive technology to enable persons with disabilities to live independently and fully participate in society. The CRPD has defined the obligations of States Parties to promote the use, research, development, production, and distribution of assistive technology, making it affordable and widely available for persons with disabilities.
